Playreadings
fu-GEN offers a free, year round playreading series open to actors and theatre professionals at all stages of their careers. After a play is read, Company Dramaturge and Artistic Director Nina Lee Aquino leads a short dramaturgical discussion. In addition to expanding the artists’ library of Asian-North American work, the readers also expand upon their dramaturgical vocabulary and are able to network with other theatre professionals. Because of fu-GEN’s dedication to the development of Asian-Canadian artists, the works of local playwrights are often featured.Participation in the playreadings is reserved for professional actors who wish to extend the breadth of their training. fu-GEN defines “professional” as someone who has had theatre training through school (post secondary or conservatory) or one whose art practice has assumed career significance through a combination of individual competence, reception by the community, and economic return. Typically, professional artists devote a significant proportion of their energies to practicing their art, seek remuneration for their work and are acknowledged as peers by others working in their field. If you would like to be added to our playreading group, please send your name, e-mail address and phone number to dale@fu-gen.org.
