The Kitchen is fu-GEN’s playwriting unit, held annually and entering its fifth year. A small group of select playwrights meet for 12 months, and develop new or existing work. The Kitchen is a supportive environment where playwrights are given the resources to complete a first draft. At the end of the 12 months the works culminate in the Potluck Festival, an annual showcase event, featuring staged readings of the new plays.

Membership in The Kitchen is open to Asian-Canadian playwrights and/or artists who have a serious interest in playwriting. A maximum of 8 applicants are accepted each year. To apply, submit a writing sample to:
